At the end of October, the Redlees Studio Gallery will host an exhibition of John Potter’s work. Decade: Paintings 2016 – 2026 celebrates the tenth anniversary of John being a Redlees Studios artist. Featuring paintings from the many themes and series he has worked on during this time alongside some of his newest works, it provides a pause and moment of reflection on the past as well as an opportunity to discover how his practice has evolved more recently.
Often created in series, John’s colourful, abstract and often large-scale works reference themes of art history, music and fragmented memories of place. Although he avoids any form of illusional representation, many of the paintings explore the relationship and sometimes conflicting forces between human nature and nature itself.
John is also delighted to have been shortlisted for the 2026 Cass Art Prize which champions the best of contemporary painting across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

A free in-conversation event will take place in the gallery on Saturday 31 October at 2pm, at which John will talk about his work, technique and inspiration with artist and writer Simon Streather.
